Grants
Minister Darragh O’Brien, responsible for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, has officially announced a notable augmentation in grants allocated for domestic wastewater treatment systems, commonly identified as septic tank systems. This adjustment reflects a substantial increase of 140%, raising the grant to €12,000 from its previous amount of €5,000.
Effective from January 1, 2024, these strategic modifications are designed to enhance inclusivity, facilitating a greater number of households to qualify for augmented grants. This, in turn, ensures increased financial support for the purpose of upgrading or replacing their septic tank systems. Notably, the pre-existing qualifying condition necessitating septic tank registration with local authorities before February 2013 will be entirely omitted, streamlining and expediting the application process.
In his official statement on the grant announcement, Minister O’Brien underscored the significance of these adjustments, expressing, “These pivotal changes are poised to provide substantial relief to households, particularly those situated in rural Ireland, by mitigating the financial burden associated with the enhancement, repair, or replacement of a septic tank.”
